I had bought a P3 500Mhz back in 2000 .. inside 7 yrs, it is 'outdated technology' ... So this time I'm planning to go for the highest config available.. hoping to drag this by another 7 years.
So, has anybody tried the Core 2 duo from Intel? Alongwith the motherboard (ASUS) and TwinMOS DDR RAM (512MB), it's going to set me back by about Rs 15,000. So please post your experiences before I take the plunge.

Thanks

blitz2,

Blitz,

Core 2 duo chips are pretty much the standard here in USA now. Even Quadro has come out. With Core 2 DUO you need DDR2 memory. DDR2 min data rate is equal to Max date rate of DDR memory. if you are a gamer and perform video editing , the I would suggest to go for it, otherwise if you are just using your PC for emails and word processing , then you really don't need a Core 2 DUO processor.

If you need Windows VISTA which is getting released next week you may need to upgrade your PC as it is not gonna run on your PIII machine.

Hope this helps...

Yes Kolusu, AFAIK also VISTA does not perform well on a DDR2 lesser than 1 GB, so if you really wanna have better perf with VISTA go for a higher RAM.

Post your planned configuration so we can actually start some where. What do you want to do with the machine? There are so many variables you have to narrow it down.
