With over 5 TB of data for a read-only server system what hardware system would work?

For say 40 users online to access the data. No updates just read-only access to retrieve old data.

Would a top-of-the-line R6000 work? Or other server?

Thanks for any ideas.

Do you want to convert FROM "mvs" or TO "mvs"?

Which database software do you intend to use?

If not "mvs", which operating system you intend to use?

How do you intend to convert the data (and transfer it to another box?

The system is MVS CICS based with very large VSAMS. Some have over 3 million records and 30+ TB (21300 cyl x 720 KB per cyl = 153,360,000 k bytes)

Might just run batch SQL reports.

So the system needs to be to SQL or Oracle database with either Linux or a MS server.

Thanks!

Someone needs to decide if the target environment will be Linux or MS.

Then a deision needs to be made concerning which database software will be used.

Either could support running "batch sql reports".

Keep in mind that for your organizaton 3 million records is "large". For many places, this volume is quite modest. Hopefully, none of the reports will have 3 million lines of report output.

Once the decision is made on the platform and the database software you will need to have a plan to convert/migrate the existing data to the target.
