If you simply sent off a PM to someone without enquiring if it was OK to so so they may also just delete it. Unsolicited PMs are generally against the rules of many forums (fora).
If it was unsolicited and that person has not been active 'for a while' it may be that they have retired and no longer participate in the forum.
