BTW - if you do not have the right to enter the UK you may find it hard to get a visa - especially in the current economic climate. And jobs are scarce in the mainframe developer field - I've been trying for 10 months (PL/1 are even scarcer!).

And jobs are scarce in the mainframe

And that's why I work in Belgium rather than my home country

Can somebody tell me about visa process in Europe (or any European country in particular)? Like in US you need to apply months in advance. Then there is quota for H1. You have visas like L1 where you can't change company. Then you can opt for Green Card where visa is not required.

Also, I know only English so apart from UK where else I can look for a job without having language problem.

Look up the relevant government website - possibly by doing a google on something like:
italy visa
and then try the ones that seem to offer the best hope.

Each country has its own requirements and rules. There is no 'visa for Europe'.
Some jobs in Europe are with companies that have English as the working environment but the current batch need German or French or Dutch or a combination. But it all depends on the vacancy.

I work in a large financial institution, and we are offshoring very rapidly.

I am surrounded by large numbers of very competent, hard-working, fast-learning professionals from Cognizant, Wipro and TCS, and I really don't expect us to be taking on any permanent IT staff for a very long time.

I don't want to crush your hopes; I'm just telling it like it is. You may be better off getting a job with one of these companies in India, then getting assigned to the UK. I'm afraid I don't have a clue about the pay.

I think the UK visa rule got simplified now. If you want to come to UK as an IT professional, you need to earn 60 points under Tier 2 Category. If I understood it correctly it is easy to get 60 points.

30 points if you have an offer letter from an employer(must be registered as a sponson with Home office)
20 Points if you got a degree
10 points for your English language ability.
