We ran into this today, and wonder if anyone has a solution/explanation as to why it's working the way it is. This is the message my colleague receives
Quote:

ARC1020I DFSMSHSM IS RECALLING FROM TAPE DSN=IAT473.ENDEVOR.SYSIN, YOU MAY CONT
INUE THE RECALL IN THE BACKGROUND AND FREE YOUR TSO SESSION BY PRESSING THE ATTE
NTION KEY
ARC0612I VOLUME MOUNT ISSUED FOR RECALL OR RECOVER OF IAT473.ENDEVOR.SYSIN
ARC1010I USER REQUEST FOR A MIGRATED DATA SET FAILED.
ARC1001I IAT473.ENDEVOR.SYSIN RECALL FAILED, RC=0004, REAS=0000
ARC1104I NO PRIMARY VOLUME AVAILABLE FOR RECALL

The dataset shows MIGRAT2 in 3.4 and is a PDS-E.

I have no problem recalling her migrated datasets or my own migrated PDS-E's, it's simply that she can't recall mine.

I have googled the error number (ARC1104I) but became none the wiser.

misi01,

Your colleague might be lacking authority

1. To mount tapes
2. Your Id

So Probably check the syslog to see any error messages during the time your colleague issued the RECALL command and you probably will see a message that she ain't authorized.

Can she recall her own datasets?

Yes, she can. She can also recall my datasets as long as they're not PDS-E's

That's what's so strange. What's so special about a PDS-E (rhetorical question)?

misi01,

Are these datasets non-sms datasets?

if so can you try t0 recall the data set to a nonSMS primary volume using a specific volser:

HRECALL datasetname UNIT(unittype) VOLSER(volser)

Also here is a plausible explanation of the message ARC1104I

https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/arc1104i-no-primary-volume-available-recall-when-hsm-attempts-recall-sms-managed-data-set
