Folks,

I'm getting this abend. The manual provides very little information and this is what it is:
A user-written edit/compression routine has detected a processing error while attempting compression or expansion services.

Any thoughts on this??

Cheers,
Coolman.

Bithead,
I have no idea as to what a compression service is. I have to make a call to another program which does an Insert into a IMS DB. Now when this call is issued, I get a U2990 abend.

Any suggestions.

Cheers,
Coolman.

Compression services compress IMS database segments to reduce the amount of space on DASD. (In the same way that PKZIP compresses a file). There are a number of different products that do this so it would help to know the vendor.

Compression of data is based on an algorithm based on the value of the data. If the data changes, then the size of the compressed segment may also change which may mean that the segment will not fit back in the same physical location in the database. IMS will then move it to another location.

The compresseion algorithm used by a particular database or segment is defined in the DBD in COMPRTN=. If you do not know the vendor, then post the routine name. This may help.

Not terribly helpful! Are there any messages in the SYSOUT or control/dependant region?
