My Job abended after 1022 records and check point will be issued after 500 records and my out put file is a GSAM file , I expected that my output file will have only 1000 records but surprsingly it has 1022 records. Every record will be written to output file.

Please let me know how this is possible ?

All records will appear in the output file. The restart will reposition the write immediately after the last checkpoint, ie after 1000th record, and IMS will write over the rest.
