Hi All,

I like to know about mainframe testings. can anybody specify is there any tools available for that, any manuals or books u know for mainframe testing. Also I would like to know in which website i can know about mainframe testing. Please let me know any details about mainframe testing.

Sudhakar, If the reason behind your question/post is that you plan to apply for a 'Tester' position or have already (ur urgency is indicative of it) Confused

.. today the market is flooded with software tools of alll kinds. Until you know which Tool they are using/need for Testing ,I am not sure if you can possibly know-it-all without a hands-on exposure to them. Just the other day I heard someone talk about a Hiper-station position ,perhaps another Testing/QA Tool for the m/f.

Hiperstation is a wonderfool testing tool. Although I have never really used it myself, we have it in our installation and I have seen people using it. It basically runs CICS transactions iteratively using a flat file as input.

If this is really true, your doing your employer a great dis-service.
I can't believe your company is still in business but, then again, do the "close enough" programming, ship the end results and have someone else clean up the mess. What a way to make a living. Very Happy

Many routine work happens in many places. Especially in new outsourced companies, because if you suggest something for improvisation it has to go through many layers, and there are always some layers which doesn't understand the situation and neglect it.

Another common thing I have noticed, please don't take it personally, that if someone is weak in mainframe technologies he gets pushed into testing. In such case there is very less scope of improvisation.

But companies still make money, only thing is that some make more than others!

At our shop we use ASG's ESW-SMARTTEST. Compuware's XPEDITER is very similar and easy to use. We also use QA Hiperstation for regression testing. It is not a program level debugging tool but compares the output screen differences between a base test scenario and a current test. These products are not cheap.
However, COBOL also comes with it's own debugging feature.

I've been generally impressed by XPEDITER (NOT XPEDITOR - why is it so many people spell it wrongly?). It has a lot of features, but is still quite intuitive for simple applications. But I think it is quite expensive.
It comes in various flavours - XPEDITER/CICS, XPEDITER/TSO (for batch debugging), XPEDITER/IMS etc.

This would have been much better as a new topic, perhaps called "Debugging Through Viasoft".

I recommend you do that, then I will delete this post in a very old thread.
