Obtain missing Sequence# using Sort

Hi,
I have both DFSORT and SYNCSORT in my shop.
Now my requirement is I have following contents in Input File.
Code:

001ABCD
002ABCE
005MNCS
008MLKK

From positions 1 - 3 is the Serial# .
If we observe the Sequence of this Serial#s - 003,004 and 006,007 are missing.
Is there any way to get these missing Seq Nos using sort. Or should I go for Easytrieve?
