There are 3 ways to transfer data from one program to another in Transaction Manager - in a message, in a SPA or by saving it in a database.

To browse a message, look in the IMS log for a record type 01 (F x'01' 1).

All SPA data is maintained in core so you will need either an IMS or MVS tool that can browse memory.

To browse a database, use the appropriate utility.

Thanks Bithead,

Can you please mention which MVS tool you are refering and my shop has IMS too.

I have seen log files for batch IMS programs but I have not seen LOG files for online. Could you please guide me from where to get the file.

I appreciate it.

The tools that can browse memory might be the monitors from BMC or Candle for example. I have never used them for that purpose.

I can't tell you the name of the log files as that is site dependant. You would need to talk to the DBA.

You may also consider using the trace tables which are explained in the IMS Diagnosis Guide and Reference.

Thanks Bithead,

My original question was where to get the log files. You must be knowing how to set up online region may be there could be some place where you mention your online logfile. I would like to know that place. I work in ca-telon in PC so I don't know much about set up in mainframe. We do have BMC but I don't know how to access it. Candle is out of question.

Please advise.
Thanks.

As I said, the log names are defined at system set up time. You should work with your DBA to determine which logs you can look at.
