gans79,

COding a cobol pgm using SECTIONS is a very old technique. SECTIONS were used to create overlays to avoid memory constraints as you could have multiple sections in memory at the same time. You no longer need sections. (well not exactly true considering the SORT verb in VS COBOL II(long out of support) requires the input and output procedure names have to be section names.)

Using paragraphs, instead of sections, makes the pgm to be a more readable and clear, in terms of following logic.
