Hello,

Mainframe modernization is the buzz word today. This means exposing mainframes to web services using SOLA etc.

Effectively this means accessing mainframe database using middle layers like IBM's WebSphere Messaging server or Microsofts BizzTalk Server.

One of the key challenge in mainframe modernization is meeting up 24 X 7 availability requirements. Web is available 24X7 to customers but most of mainframes systems are not (due to batches/maintenance etc)

Any views/ideas on how to fill this gap of mainframe availability and web service ?

jiwaniakbar,

Since it is in the CICS forum, I am assuming that you want CICS to be available 24 X 7 . If that is indeed the case then take a look at this topic

Thanks Kolusu,

I have gone through the article and indeed it is very useful. Many Thanks.

However, I was hoping to set up some brainstorming over the design solutions to face this challenge.

For example can we set up CICS to just in enquiry only mode during the maintenance period with exceptions of few tables? or to set up some switch over partition within mainframes etc...

Is this feasible at all!

Regards

akbar

jiwaniakbar,

sorry for late post on this. If you want true" 24x7 support batch to cics, suggest you review product BatchCICS-Connect , (recently acquired by Document Systems).

go to www.batchcics.com for more information

Thanks Earl.

Are you aware of any company where this was implemented?

Not sure of name, but I do know there was an insurance company on the
west coast that installed a version of BatchCICS-Connect few months back.

I would discuss with the vendor, I'm sure they would be glad to assist you.

go to www.batchcics.com and click on the 'contact us' tab.
