Hi
we are trying to migrate part of our mainframe applications off. i have been asked (and I am App Dev) to see if it's possible to find the amount of MIPS that's used by this subset of jobs (only batch, no online)
I asked our Systems group and for a given list of jobs they can give my CPU and I/O for a given period of time (in this case for a whole month)

Does this correlate to MIPS in anyway?

Thanks

chuck,

If your shop have capacity planning tool then you can get the information by lpar

https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cma/2.1.1?topic=reference-application-analytics-mips-used-application-by-lpar

Alternatively you can get the SMF 30 and get the CPU time of all the jobs combined together and convert it to MIPS using this (formula's differ based on the CPU model)

https://www.longpelaexpertise.com.au/ezine/CPUtoMSUMIPS.php

You also may need this IBM Z Large Systems Performance Reference

Thanks Kolusu. I will take this back to sysprog group. This is more than what I had yesterday- so hopefully will get us where we need to be.
