#1: English expression Author: misi01, Location: Stockholm, SwedenPosted: Wed Jul 03, 2024 1:42 am A colleague asked me (I who haven't lived in England in decades and has worked all my life in Sweden) what the English expression might be for the concept of masking and copying data from production to test.
Here in Europe (with something called GDPR) you're not allowed to copy "real" data from production to other environments.
You have to mask (?) sensitive data (names, SSN etc) BEFORE copying it.
So. Is there ONE English expression for the
a) masking of the data
b) copying it from one environment to another
Sensitive Data masking or Data privacy masking is what you are looking for.

I work in similar project where apart from masking we also have to maintain character of data, like "John" becomes "Bond" (4 letters) but not "Shawn" (5 letters). We use the term "Data Sanitization" for the process and "Sanitized Data" for the output. We use BMC "Data Privacy" product for doing this and they use the term "Data Disguise".
