Using DUMPCONDITIONING produces physical volume dumps which can be used for dataset restore, but ............. can get a little complicated. You need to know the volsers where the dataset originally resided and concatenate the dump volumes as input to the restore.

With z/OS 1.8 this facility will be available to HSM, which is much smarter at doing dataset restores from physical dumps.

The SNAP / FLASH / ....................... options are all PAY FOR options and as such may not be available.

You will need to quiesce DB2/CICS updates to get a valid PIT (Point in time) backup, if that is what you need.

You can always look at the BWO option in the DATACLAS, so would need to speak with your storage people about making changes to either the DATACLAS definitions and/or the ACS routines.

Good luck !!!

BWO = Backup While Open.

You may need to have a read of the DFSMSsms books for more details.
