Sort the detail records only

Hi friends,

I have a file which contains the records in the following way

1 header record as the first record
Multiple detail records after the header record
1 trailer record as the last record.

I want to sort only detail records and keep header and detail records as first and last records.How this can be done in an efficient way.

With the new DATASORT operator of DFSORT's ICETOOL, available with z/OS DFSORT V1R5 PTF UK90013 (July, 2008), you can do this kind of thing quite easily like this (replace the SORT fields with whatever you need to sort the detail records):

Code:

//S1   EXEC  PGM=ICETOOL
//TOOLMSG   DD  SYSOUT=*
//DFSMSG    DD  SYSOUT=*
//IN DD DSN=...  input file
//OUT DD DSN=...  output file
//TOOLIN DD *
DATASORT FROM(IN) TO(OUT) HEADER TRAILER USING(CTL1)
/*
//CTL1CNTL DD *
  SORT FIELDS=(1,4,CH,A)
/*
