Hi all,
These are the properties of a GDG
GDG BASE DATASET NAME: TEST.GDG
GDG DATASET LIMIT: 5
ACTIVE GENERATIONS: 5
UNCATALOG OPTIONS: NOEMPTY
SCRATCH OPTIONS: NOSCRATCH
But I can see more than 5 versions, around 16 versions Active at a time. How can this be possible?

are they all cataloged? Methinks not. You are not deleting the old ones when they get uncatalogued - NOEMPTY NOSCRATCH _________________ Utility and Program control cards are NOT, repeat NOT, JCL. |

I guess I'm confused by the question. With the NOEMPTY and NOSCRATCH options specified, what are you expecting to see and why do you think it's weird? I think you may be confused as to what the LIMIT implies. |

With NOSCRATCH, they may be SMS-controlled and just ROLLED OUT of the base. Still cataloged but not part of the group. _________________ Regards,

Arvibala,
GDG "UNCATALOG" does not remove the generation from system catalogue. It just removes it from GDG catalogue so that it will not be linked to GDG any more.
You can see this by using LCAT or by coping GDG contents to different file (Specify GDG base alone in input). You can see that previous versions are no longer related to GDG base.
Hope it helps,
