Hi All,
I created a PS file. Then I change the contents in the PS and save it. I saw there are Version number in the PS properties. Is it possible to see the previous version of the PS file.
Have a nice day
Bye

Hariharan,
Please enlighten me with the term "version number" in PS properties. Where do you get this info?? Are you see something different than what is shown in 3.4 panel (S besides the dataset name)

For a simple sequential (PS) file, there are no versions and no way to view an earlier version of the data. I don't know what version number you might be referring to.
Now, if you created a member of a PDS with ISPF, ISPF maintains version numbers for updated members, but again there is no way to see a previous version. The version number is usually saved in the last 2 digits of the sequence number on each line, so you can often find what lines were updated in each version (upless a line was updated in multiple versions).

Hi kolusu and black,
Thanks for your kind reply.
When I go right of the PS (ie by pressing F11) we got one column as VV MM. It has the version numbers.
I feel that these versions are only deleted when we compress the PDS.
Sorry If I am wrong.

Hariharan78,
That VV MM is only present for a member of a PDS but not for a SEQUENTIAL file (PS).so please use the correct terms when seeking for help
Thanks

You are correct in that the previous copies are only deleted when the PDS is compressed. When you save the member the directory simply moves the member pointer to the new member location. The old member data is still there. A compress cleans up those old members. However there are no IBM standard utilities, etc to simply view these old members. You can however recover them using commercial or shareware programs. |
