Yes there is an option. Once you open the forum, there is a column LAST POST and underneath it you can see
something like this

click on the square box besides the poster's name and you will directly get the latest response.

This trick works even from the index page of the helpboard.

Check it and let me know and mean while I will look into saving the settings
