Experts,
I have a dataset spreaded across 3 volumes. I want to know, number of primary and secondary extents used by dataset in each volume. I tried this using IEHLIST. But i am not able to understand the o/p of IEHLIST utility.
Thanks,
Ravikumar. |

ravikumar_sri2001,
If you have file-aid at your shop then you can view the space usage on each volume. Choose the option UTILITIES (3) on the file-aid main menu and later choose the option 7(VTOC) . Provide the dataset name and you will get the space usage report on each volume
Hope this helps....
cheers

Kolusu,
Thanks for your explanation. But what i wanted is this.
Number of extents spent in primary space allocation (in each volume)
Number of extents spent in secondary space allocation (in each volume)
Thanks,
Ravikumar. |

Ravikumar,
As I mentioned earlier , you can get all the information from file-aid. Let us say you have a dataset which is on volumes AAAAA , BBBBB, CCCCC
Now choose the VTOC (F;3;7) on file-aid menu.
choose the option I
and give the volume name which in this case AAAAA where it says volume serial and hit enter.
Now you will get a one line listing of the volume. Put an S besides the volume name and hit enter.
Now you will get all the datasets on that particular volume.
Put an S besides the dataset in question and hit enter.
You will find the 1st extent cylinders, Secondary cylinders, allocated extents.
Now similarly perform the same steps for the all volumes i.e BBBBB & CCCCC
Hope this helps...
cheers

Kolusu,
Thanks for your explanation.
"Allocated extents" shows the number of extents spent for the file on that particular volume. Is it possible to find number of primary and secondary extents in the "Allocated extents"
Thanks,
Ravikumar. |
