Hi
Nowadays I can see a lot of thanx mails if anybody answers for the questions.
Are they really necessary?
It makes a topic more and more lengthy.
Why dont we send personal thanx mails?
All opinions are welcome? 8)
And how can I move a message from one topic to some other topic as I have posted wrongly? _________________ Cheers Nila.. |

It is always good to have a feedback from the questioner whether the proposed solution worked or not. Thanking the solution provider is good as many people will try to answer the question. you are basically thanking the person for taking his valuable time out to help you out. I don't think a simple " Thank you" will make the post any big. Moreover you dont have to worry about the database size. I am the one who should worried if you have lot of personal messages in your inbox as it will take up the site space.
Hmm I strongly am against sending personal mails. Please do not send mails asking solutions. There is a likely chance that the solution provider might not like receiving mails.

It is just a signature line for COGITO-ERGO-SUM. You also can have any thing as long as it is not offending anyone.

No you cannot. The moderator of the forum or myself can do that.Usually the moderators are active and they will do it for you. or else you can request them to move the topic as you accidentally posted in the wrong forum. As always at the bottom right of every topic it lists your authorizisation level

I agree with Kolusu that saying "Thanks" is definitely the right thing to do.
It lets the responder know that his/her efforts are appreciated and did indeed help the poster. It also makes for a friendly and polite community which is what we're trying to foster on this bulletin board. _________________ Frank Yaeger - DFSORT Development Team (IBM)

Also it encourages others to answer. As you can see sometimes they spend a good amount of their valuable time to answer the questions. If we dont say thank you to a good answer, others dont know whether we have even bothered to read the answer.

I can only speak about USA culture. It is ALWAYS correct to say thank you for any kindness shown to you, no matter how trivial.
I have noticed this is not always the same in other cultures. I am not saying the other coultures are wrong, just different. |

Though I am not used to 'Thanks' culture I find it, as others have alrady pointed out, encouraging as well as an evaluation of the reply. |

In addition letting people know that a solution worked or didn't can be of help to others. _________________ Regards,
