We are running OS/VS COBOL, CICS 1.3, and have lots of Illegal Verbs in the programs. Occasionally we get a S0C4 in a CICS region, and have managed to trace this back (not easy) to execution of an illegal verb.
But on the whole, things are quite stable. Surprising really seeing as the programs are riddled with Illegal Verbs, and judging from what IBM says, I would have expected "real" instability, but that is simply not the case.
(NB: OS/VS COBOL is the version prior to COBOL II).
Next year we are going to be upgrading to CICS 2.3. Unfortunately we are not in a position to migrate off OS/VS COBOL very easily (basically because the COBOL programs are sub-tasked under Assembler, and the Assembler modules have modified the COBOL Internals), and will need to keep running this ancient version of COBOL for some time yet. (We do intend [sometime] on removing the Verbs).
My question is:- does anyone have some first-hand experience of running OS/VS COBOL with CICS 2.3 with Illegal Verbs??

There are a lot of issues involved here. Frankly, I think you are going to be running into BIG trouble. Take a look at the many threads in the forum discussing the migration issues of CICS and Cobol and LE (Language Environment).
