				| I have a dataset currently storing 17k tracks, 100% utilized. What is the best way to add more data to the file?
 Our system removes ALL unused tracks/cylinders every evening, so I can't allocate more than I need and expect it to be there the next day.

 Somehow, I'll have to temporarily store the data, delete the production file, and then rebuild it with the additional data - I think!

 BTW - this is a SAS job, and the dataset is a SAS library.

 Is it a PDS?

				| No, but it's capable of storing multiple SAS objects, hence the library reference. Here's a typical allocation:
 //OUT1    DD DSN=HIGHLVL.SASFILE.MYLIB,
 //        DISP=(,CATLG,DELETE),
 //        DCB=(LRECL=27648,RECFM=FS,DSORG=PS),
 //        UNIT=TSODA,SPACE=(TRK,(1900,190),RLSE)

 It simply must be possible to make an exception for a file like this.

 Have you spoken to your Storage guys?

				| Well, not really. I think the problem lies with the fact that I'm using public packs instead of private, which have a higher cost. You make a good poin though. I'll call one of my storage buddies and see if he can comment.
 Yeah, I should have stated that private packs are not tampered with as far as removing unused space - makes sense actually.

 Maybe this is the direction I need to go.
