Hi frnds,
Sorry if i am asking a stupid question.
I have studied operating system concepts earlier like an operating system having Kernal(for internal purpose) and Shell (for interacting with user) etc etc
Do they applicable for MVS too???
if yes then how?
if no then why?
just give me a brief explanation

aquarian,

I think your best plan is to browse around this FAQ topic for now, and ask specific questions later on when you're ready.

Cheers,
Merv

MVS (or now called ZOS) has a feature called OMVS (Open MVS) - a Unix type subsystem. I do not know how it is set up at your site, but we call it up with ISH (ISHELL). There are many site dependencies here, so ask somebody in your shop about it.

aquarian,

All of them different flavours of mainframe operating system. MVS became OS/390 which became Z/OS. Check this link(zipped PDF file) which explains the history of Mainframes with detailed explanation of the various operating systems.

Hope this helps...

Cheers
