bvaasavi,

You need to convert the comp-3 data to a readable format. You can do that using sort,file-aid...

Check this link for a example

Hope this helps...

Cheers

how did you download the file?
If ftp with ASCII mode, the each character will be changed when transfered.
try use BIN mode. But then all character would keep EBCDIC.

Hi,
i tried to download with ascii option.as you suggested if i download in binary,it will retain ebcdic right,so i again need to convert in to ascii?
Suggest me an approach such that the Mainframe file with comp fields is read correctly in unix.

bvaasavi,

I am not sure of your requirements here -

Unix does not support comp-3 data and any version of COBOL(I think you will be using Microfocus COBOL here) that you use in Unix should likewise not support comp-3. You should be converting all comp-3 data into Unix compatible data before attempting to download the file.

There are a lot of tools in the market to do just that including one by Syncsort.

HTH...Regards,
Manas
