Need to begin looking at applying system maintenance to our zOS 1.7 system. I read about enhanced hold data and how it is used so that's a start. I have several questions listed below. Answers or direction is greatly appreciated.

2. What has replaced ESO ordering?
3. Is there any IBM web site giving directions on getting maintenance, maintenance types, etc. I just have not found the right link yet.

It would be easy if your fixes were usually applied by service levels (PUTyymm or RSUyymm). Look at the SMPLOGs and see what was last applied.

In reality, PTFs may be applied as needed and not in any organized fashion. In that case you'll probably never equate it to a service level. You'll need to use ShopzSeries to order maint (up to 2 yrs back) based on your current system level (after generating SERVICE profile).

I created a smpe source id report which displays what PUT's and RSU's are already applied in the global zone. MY questions is what is the difference between PUT service and RSU service? Both are listed in the report.

PUTyymm sysmods are published in the month shown. The RSUyymm sysmods are groups of PTFs tested together as a unit and identified (quarterly?) as recommended service. The key being that IBM did some testing to ensure one product's PTF didn't cause problems somewhere else.

You can get on a IBM email list to be notified when new RSU service levels are announced.
