Regarding computational data items, it says, 'To produce the most efficient code for a BINARY/PACKED-DECIMAL data item, ensure that it has a sign (an S in its PICTURE clause)'. How/ why?

For Exponentiations(6.1.2.4), why would the first statement execute more quickly and accurately?
