We're using ICSF for encrypting sequential files on our system (OS/390 2.10), and NetView Distribution Manager 1.7 (NVDM) for sending those files to other platforms (OS/390, z/OS, AS/400, NT...).

Using the NVDM parameter COMPRS=YES (for a dataset) or TOCOMPRS=YES (for a flatdata), the compression ratio is almost 1% of the original encrypted file, comparing it to almost 60% when the original file is not encrypted.

Is there any other way, utility, that can get us a sufficient compression on an encrypted file, before we load it into the NVDM repository?

Or, do we have the possibility to manipulate a NVDM dataset/flatdata after we load it to the repository?

Thanks, and keep up the good work....

Netsys,

May be you can try FS compression techinque or a user compression algorithm. If you want to specify a compression exit based on the LZW technique (used by NetView DM/2), then enter NVDMLZW in the User comprs algorithm field.

Hope this helps...

Cheers
