Hello,

I am trying to document the skill levels of DB2 DBAs. I am trying to create a document to identify skilled, experienced and expert DBAs.

Can you give me your insights when a DBA can be considered as skilled, experienced and an expert.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Gelo,

In simple terms

Code:

1. Trainee DBA      :  DB2 Admin certification with some programming experience

2. Junior DBA       :  will attain after working as trainee DBA for 1-2 years

3. Skilled DBA      : 3-5 Years experience as a DBA

4. Experienced DBA  : 5-7 years of experience

5. Expert DBA       : 7+ years of experience.

Also note that a person can be an skilled/experienced/expert DBA without certification.

Hope this helps...

Cheers

Thanks Kolusu!

I agree that years of experience can determine the skill level of a DBA but that is not always the case. I've interviewed applicants that have a number of years experience but all they have done is alter tables, create tables, fix table spaces, etc. So I would just rank them as junior or skilled DB2 DBA--even though they have a number of years experience on their belts.

I am thinking of performance tuning, database designing will be skills of an experienced or expert DBA. Would you agree? are there skills or experience that I should consider when ranking DB2 DBAs?

Thanks for your help!
