Hi,

We are in the process of migrating from mainframe to distributed system & we need to identify how much data is cuurently residing at the application level. I have the information of DASD but as part of regular backups we are migrating data to tapes which has data for all the applications. Can anyone suggests how we go about?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,
RajSanj

RajSanj,

Look up the reports from your tape management software. It gives you a comprehensive list of all the tapes being used in the system.

Thanks Kolusu,

I would get in touch with my TMC team. But before I approach them, would you be able to tell if I can get equivalent DASD required if we move the data from tape to DASD & worse part is since we have multiple High Level Qualifiers in the same region, can I get the data at High Level Qualifiers level? Please suggest.

Regards,
RajSanj

RajSanj,

Run a LISTCAT against high level qualifier and find out the list of datasets.
Code:

LISTCAT LEVEL(HLQ)

I don't think there is an easier way to determine the equivalent DASD required for all this tape data as each dataset can span multiple volumes.

Your TMC will have the detailed list as to how many bytes on each tape which can be used to determine the total DASD required.
