|
|
Hi,
In my batch jobs which I run week-end and Month-end there will be lot of dataset deletions. Which one in IEFBR14, IDCAMS is efficient utility. Sometimes datasets will be migrated also.
Thanks

Kolusu,
Thank you. The link suggests that "if a dataset is migrated, then with IEFBR14, a recall is done before delete. But, IDCAMS does not do the recall". Does it mean that even if Dataset is migrated IDCAMS will delete the dataset without recall. So if I replace all IEFBR14 DELETES by IDCAMS DELETE will performance will increase?
Thanks

Kolusu,
As the jobs are using IEFBR14 for deleting datasets, sometimes running time is more. If i replace it by IDCAMS it will delete the migrated datasets also na, so can i replace IEFBR14 BY IDCAMS.
Cheers!!

nadh,
The only difference you will notice is the Elapsed time for the jobs as IEFBR14 has to recall the dataset before deleting it. So if you are concerned about the elapsed times of the jobs rather than CPU time then go ahead and change to IDCAMS.

Hi Kolusu,
I am using IDCAMS to delete the migrated dataset, it works fine for most of the except for dataset with retention periods manually coded. I am getting following error message:
** VSAM CATALOG RETURN CODE IS 84 - REASON CODE IS IGG0CLFK-0
Is there anything specific I need to do in this case?

Hi Kolusu,
Looks like this is happening because we didnot give purge option in IDCAMS.
