We have a VSAM file that is loaded each cycle and sometimes it breaches the 4 gig limit. I need to find out how close it is to that limit. What is the best way to find out the total size of this file?
Thanks! |

Do an IDCAMS utility LISTCAT command to display the HI-A-RBA (high allocated relative Byte address) and see if it's approaching 4Gb.
Do you know that DFSMS extended-format VSAM can exceed 4Gb? Have your storage manager person fix you up. Be aware that some numbers in LISTCAT output are different (not in bytes) for extended-format files. _________________ Regards,

| I ran datafinder and was able to get the high and used RBA. The difference between those is how much space I have left. It is a ESDS file. I'm going to call our datacenter to put the file in hardware compression. Hope that will help a little till we can implement a permanent solution. |
