Hi board.

I need some help from you all. I was working with MVS,COBOL, JCL was happy there. But now in my new career venture i am put into a totally different environment ...IBM's TPF O/S and S390 Assembler.I dont know even a bit of both and am finding it difficult to start working. I couldn't find enough materials in web except IBM's huge handbook. I am also worried about my future working with this skillsets. Please advise..It would be of great help if u can share any material stuffs u have on TPF & assembler , URL links etc..

Thanks for your Time!

mask-of-zorro,

TPF = Transaction Processing Facility is a high-availability, high-performance system, designed to support real-time, transaction driven applications. The specialized architecture of TPF is intended to optimize system efficiency, reliability, and responsiveness for data
communication and database processing. TPF provides real-time inquiry and update to a large, centralized database, where message length is relatively short in both directions, and response time is generally less than three seconds. Formerly known as the Airline Control Program/Transaction Processing Facility (ACP/TPF).

Most TPF applications are written in assembler. They are very small and very fast. TPF programs track everything from reservations on millions of airline flights, advanced seat selection and on-time performance of aircraft. I wonder how well a network of distributed servers can handle what is essentially a huge inventory application with very perishable product?

Check this link for more information on TPF

As for the assembler manuals , click on the "Quick manuals" link at the top of this page and look under "Assembler" section for the manuals.

Hope this helps...

Cheers
