sankar narayanan,

There is no TOOLMSG and DFSMSG in your code. Include them as shown by kris. Device name is wrong. Correct it as SYSDA and try.

sankar narayanan,

Code given by kris works fine if you make the changes suggested. Always use CODE QUOTES while including code in your post.

as vkphani has pointed, you have missed
Code:
//TOOLMSG  DD SYSOUT=*
//DFSMSG   DD SYSOUT=*
in your code.
Look at ICETOOL Return Codes

sankarnarayanan,

If you would like to know the usage of these two lines, go to Quick Manuals, click on DFSORT manual and do a search.

TOOLMSG is for the ICETOOL messages.

DFSMSG is for the DFSORT messages.

For complete details on DFSORT's ICETOOL, see:

http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr_OS390/BOOKS/ICE1CA20/6.0?DT=20060615185603

If you're not familiar with DFSORT and DFSORT's ICETOOL, I'd suggest reading through "z/OS DFSORT: Getting Started". It's an excellent tutorial, with lots of examples, that will show you how to use DFSORT, DFSORT's ICETOOL and DFSORT Symbols. You can access it online, along with all of the other DFSORT books, from:

www.ibm.com/servers/storage/support/software/sort/mvs/srtmpub.html
