We have a VSAM file that is loaded each cycle and sometimes it breaches the 4 gig limit. I need to find out how close it is to that limit. What is the best way to find out the total size of this file?

Thanks!

Do an IDCAMS utility LISTCAT command to display the HI-A-RBA (high allocated relative Byte address) and see if it's approaching 4Gb.

Do you know that DFSMS extended-format VSAM can exceed 4Gb? Have your storage manager person fix you up. Be aware that some numbers in LISTCAT output are different (not in bytes) for extended-format files.

I ran datafinder and was able to get the high and used RBA. The difference between those is how much space I have left. It is a ESDS file. I'm going to call our datacenter to put the file in hardware compression. Hope that will help a little till we can implement a permanent solution.
