Hi,

Is there any way of putting carriage control characters in files rather than coding "AFTER ADVANCING" ? My requirement is to insert the characters through the program itself.

thanks

Ranjish,

You can insert carraige control characters in the program itself. Define a 133 byte file and move the appropriate carriage control character to the first byte.
Code:

blank =  Advance one line
0     =  Advance 2 lines
-     =  Advance 3 lines
+     =  Do not advance

check this link for other carriage controls

Hope this helps...

cheers

Kolusu,

Should the record format be FA/FBA/VBA in this case?

krishna,

Yes the file should be FA/FBA/VBA. Note that you need to move the carriage control to the 5th byte if the report file is VBA
