Hi,
Is there any way of putting carriage control characters in files rather than coding "AFTER ADVANCING" ? My requirement is to insert the characters through the program itself.

Should the record format be FA/FBA/VBA in this case?

Yes the file should be FA/FBA/VBA. Note that you need to move the carriage control to the 5th byte if the report file is VBA
